Cover images make your book look so much more professional. Don’t skip the step of creating an awesome, tantalizing 3D eBook cover to put on your free or premium digital book.

By the way, you can even use these tools to create nice covers for your reports and white papers!

Method 1 – Adazing (FREE)

This tutorial was updated September 9, 2018.

  3. For “Pick a Plan” choose “FREE-Pay Per Download” option, and use PayPal as the payment option. Then click “Register Now.”  You will be taken to your Dashboard for the site.
  4. On the left side choose “eCover Maker” under the “Apps” section.
  5. Now you’ll choose a template style. Hover your mouse over the style you want and four clickable options will appear. Choose the left option, which is called “Create this Cover.”ECover templates
  6. You are now able to choose the background for your cover. You can choose from the stock images provided, or you can upload your own image. Uploading your own cover image will require creating an account, but this truly gives you the most flexibility. Plus, it’s free to create the account. I selected a stock image for this example.
  7. On the next screen, place the rectangle over the area that you want to include in the cover. Then click on “Select” and “Continue” at the top.ECover Text Tools
  8. Now you can add text by clicking on the text box. This will allow you to type your title and your name, you can change fonts rotate the text 90 degrees for the spine. You can also add images to be included on the cover.
  9. Once your design is done, you can select “Finalize,” which will create your cover image. This is when you can pay to download your newly created image. If you are a prolific writer or you are marketing multiple books, you may want to consider the monthly plan.Eco7 (1)

  1. I tried the 3D book cover from Adazing just this morning and it was awesome! For something free it doesn’t look cheap. I already have my own book cover, I just needed it to look “real”. Good thing I came across this post and right away I tried Adazing because it’s free. I really didn’t have any high expectation of it since I didn’t spend a dime but I was really amazed with what I got for free.
Next time, I will totally buy from them. I highly recommend Adazing!
Oh! And thank you so much for this post, without it I wouldn’t have stumbled upon Adazing. 🙂

  2. You guys are awesome! Ive also saved a Creative Commons blank 3D book cover and layered my image using pixlr which gave a pretty good effect.
Thanks for such a thorough overview of other reputable choices out there 🙂

    1. Thank you, Paula! We appreciate your feedback and helpful additions. There are some terrific, affordable options for book covers and graphics these days, right?! Pixlr is on my list to try, and it’s great to know that you can use it for a 3D book cover as well.

    1. Hi Supriyo, thanks for stopping by and making a suggestion! We are regular Canva users; however, Canva doesn’t have eBook templates that are 3D, and we also wanted to provide an alternative to our readers in case they don’t have graphic design skills. But we appreciate your feedback.

  3. I don’t currently have an ebook that I’ll be promoting/using as a lead magnet, but I’ll be sure to check these out when I’m ready. Bookmarking this page! Thanks for the info1

  4. Great post! I hired a commercial artist to do my cover art, and it seems 3-D to me. I’ve always been well pleased with the outcome, as have my readers! Of prime importance, the cover can be read in “postage-stamp’ size on Amazon – which is the 1st exposure many potential readers will have of the book.

  5. It has been two or three years since I last created an ebook and I used MyeCoverMaker.com. I do not recall what I like about it other than I had the ability to create it in 3-D.

    Thanks!

    1. The program has changed a lot since then, even while writing the post an update came out that required me to do some edits to the directions. It is a great solution for creating 3D eBook covers.

  6. This is super cool. I am learning so much from reading this blog. Looking forward to next weeks post.

    1. Thanks Christy, we really enjoy sharing the knowledge we develop as we do these projects.

  7. Thanks for sharing. I network with a lot of folks that have created ebooks and I will pass this along.

  8. These are excellent ways that you can create your own 3D ebook covers! I have never heard of these…..had mine done on Fiverr, but I love these ideas SO much better, cause you can do them yourself 🙂

Awesome post with some great ideas to start doing them yourself 🙂 Thanks so much for sharing Jeff’s tips, Melanie as I definately need to save for future reference…Thanks

    1. Thanks Joan. I really enjoy working through the How-to’s they are a lot of fun.

  9. Thanks for the different options! I will be doing 3D covers for some products in the near future. I especially appreciate those key tips in your synopsis.

  10. I have been doing my ebook covers on Word. I will definitely be keeping this in my Evernote important documents for my next ebook. I wasn’t aware of any of these 3. Will be starting with myecovermaker. However I am hoping to start having a VA do it for me and will pass this on in case she hasn’t heard of them.

  11. Excellent tutorial.. and I love the screen shots.. people need that.. need to see what they are looking at. I can’t fathom and ebook at this moment.. but it is coming for sure… next year… this year is the video series! lol

    1. Kristen, we can’t wait to see an eBook from you. Hopefully you won’t keep us waiting too long.

  12. You have inspired me. I’ve been thinking about making another ebook and am now keen to play around with creating a fun cover. You’ve made it easy with these great steps and choices. Thanks for sharing. I’ll come back and let you know how I go.

  13. OMG, love this. A while ago, I dug up info on how to do the same. It was a tedious and painful process. I wanted to do this again but didn’t save any of the info and dreaded researching again. And then…VOILA, there you are with all the resources I need. Thank you kindly!

  14. I love that you gave three options and how to steps with each one. I’ve purchased e-cover programs in the past but never got around to doing anything. This gives me a boost to finish that e-book knowing that I’ve got some choices when it comes to how I want my e-book cover to look.

  15. My book cover was designed by a graphic artist friend and if I am reading this correctly, you can use existing artwork and just create a 3-D cover from your original to use in online marketing and promo material. I am not sure I have ever seen a 3-D book cover anywhere, or if I have, I might not have noticed. My e-book is on Kindle and it seem that maybe when you upload to Amazon, they make your cover 3-D. That is actually a question, as I am not sure. 🙂 I loved this tutorial and will definitely recommend the options and check out if it makes sense for me to create a 3-D book cover for my book!

  16. What great information! I’ve never had to actually do this, as my publishers have done all the cover art. But most authors I know do a hybrid to traditional and self-pubbing these days, and I may jump into that ring at some point. Saving this for when I need a cover!
