5 Twitter Marketing Secrets to Try Right Now for Better Results

January 20, 2017

min read time

I’ve shared with you how you can easily use Twitter marketing to drive traffic and clicks without spending massive time or money. For those of you who read about it, you were a bit surprised and had questions.

I’ve taken a few highlights from my popular article, explained them in more detail, and added a few extra Twitter marketing secrets for you to use.

Twitter Marketing Secrets Worth Trying for Yourself

Incorporating this knowledge into your Twitter strategy could help you see better results from your social media marketing efforts.

1. Tweeting 80 times a day means more clicks, more traffic.

I know, don’t have a heart attack! It seems like a lot, right? I’m not up to that amount either, but I’m working on it.

Until you’re tweeting quality content more often, though, I don’t want to hear from you that Twitter marketing isn’t working! Tweeting 2-3 times a day isn’t enough to increase your visibility.

If you’re still not seeing results after increasing your tweeting frequency to at least 10 or more times a day, then it could mean your content isn’t relevant to your audience. Whether it’s lack of tweeting or irrelevant content, you have some changes to make!

Twitter marketing secrets revealed

But don’t fear tweeting more frequently.

Twitter is fast-paced social media platform unlike any other. It’s a lot like a texting or message app—except that your content is public. 😉 Your several tweets each day get lost in the sheer volume of content. That’s why tweeting more frequently increases your visibility and clicks.

Now, don’t go tweeting an epic ton of spammy, promotional content. That isn’t the kind of content anyone wants to see once, let alone 80 times a day.

If you are concerned that 80 times a day is over-tweeting, then take it slowly. Increase your tweet frequency slowly. Test your audience.

Someone who follows you who has only 100 followers will see a lot of your content, especially since most other accounts don’t tweet that frequently. However, true fans and advocate will welcome and enjoy your conversational, non-promotional, informative content.

Don’t believe me? Social listening company Social Quant studied over a billion tweets. They discovered that the accounts that tweeted the most often (and had the best quality content!) saw the most results in their Twitter marketing. The accounts with the most and best tweets tweeted about 80 times a day and got about 291 clicks a day!

That many clicks a day prove that people didn’t find the 80+ tweets a day to be spammy, intrusive, or unwelcome.

Less than 1% of the accounts in that study were responsible for more than 20% of all link clicks! What does that say? It tells you that you have a huge advantage to drive traffic to your site and get your content noticed with Twitter because not many others are using the platform as well as they could!

2. Recycling your content pays off.

You now know that tweeting high-quality content gives you a big win. But it’s content recycling that is the payoff. Wondering what to do with all of that awesome evergreen blog content you have sitting around?

Put your content into a recycling queue so that both you and your audience get consistent and continual value from it!

A queue is a sequence of tweets that you batch together and recycle. When the last tweet in the queue is done, the sequence starts all over again.

The result? A continuous delivery of YOUR content into the Twitter feed, which means consistent traffic to your website/sales funnels as well as increased authority in your niche! And, the extra traffic will also boost your sales and your bottom line if your website generates leads and conversions.

Your automated evergreen content queue means that more people see your tweets! And, you don’t have to rely on manually scheduling your content every week. Invest the time upfront to set up your queue, then a bit of time here and there for updates, and you’re golden.

Unlike other social media platforms, you can re-use your content because 1) so few people see it the first time around and 2) it’s so fast moving that there isn’t content fatigue like you’d experience on Facebook and Instagram. And by tweeting more frequently and re-using your content, more people will see your content than on Facebook or Instagram (unless you’re paying FB or IN to show your content).

3. Continually follow new accounts for more profile views, traffic, and leads.

News Flash! People rarely see your Twitter profile.

Normally, people are looking at their news feed or their Twitter list feeds. Occasionally, people may visit your profile from one of your tweets. But the majority of your profile views come from new followers.

In other words, when you follow people, they go to your profile page to decide whether or not to follow you back. While perusing your profile, it’s not uncommon for them to click your pinned tweet and your URL. That’s why your profile exists—to give more information about you to people.

Your profile has more details than your tweets, so you want people clicking on it to learn more about your value proposition and how you can help them.

Twitter marketing secrets - Always follow accounts

Also, people will consistently unfollow you. You’ll need to maintain a regular following process to keep meeting new people and growing your audience.

Slowing down the following process means fewer followers. Remember that you need followers and a community to drive traffic, leads, and sales. So, fewer followers mean reduced traffic and lead generation.

Meeting new people and maintaining a Twitter community that benefits your business requires new followers.  Consistently follow others manually or use the help of a tool like Social Quant.

4. Quality, niche-focused content boosts your SEO juice.

Did you know that Google and Twitter work as a team? That’s right, Google indexes your Twitter bio and tweets. In other words, your Twitter content contributes to getting found in Google searches.

How can you leverage the relationship between Google and Twitter?

  • Optimize your Twitter bio for what you’d like Google users to find in a search.
  • Use keywords and hashtags that are 1) relevant to your business and 2) important for what topics you’d like to rank for.
  • Tweet regularly using topics relevant to your industry and niche.

Twitter marketing secrets - get found in Google

When Twitter is sending all of that traffic to your website, that is also helping your search engine statistics and optimization.

You will see the biggest benefits when tweeting quality, niche-related content that people find engaging.

5. Twitter increases your social proof.

Social proof is a psychological phenomenon where people conform to the actions of others under the assumption that those actions reflect the “correct” behavior for a given situation.

Twitter marketing secrets - increase your social proof

Twitter helps increase your social proof in numerous ways:

1) Tweet Engagement

When others see that your tweets have replies, mentions, and retweets, it suggests that you know what you’re talking about. In turn, people perceive that you’re an authority and a credible source. This engagement boosts your social proof. (A pinned tweet helps in this area too!)

2) Follower Count

Your follower quantity is a vanity metric in many ways. However, people will give some credence to how many followers you have. You’ll get social proof from the fact that people committed to following you. (The larger the following, the bigger the social proof.)

3) Social Scoring

Each person gets “scored” on various overall social and internet metrics, including your cumulative impact across various social media platforms. SEO can sometimes be a factor as well. Twitter contributes to this score, which in turn raises your social proof and influence in your industry.

All of these factors added up together give you various rankings. In addition to a more positive public perception, social proof can help elevate your standing in your industry, resulting in more opportunities, fans, clients, and money.

Over to You

To get tangible marketing results, which social media platform are you using? Twitter is an effective marketing tool, especially if you have lots of evergreen, reusable content to share and you know how to put it to work.
